Switch your billing currency #

When you create a workspace, Slack will detect your location and use this to determine your billing currency. We offer pricing and billing in U.S. dollars, British pounds, Euros, and Japanese yen.

Change your currency #

If we’re billing you in the wrong currency (based on those we offer), Workspace Owners should contact us. Our support team would be happy to help!
If you’re paying by invoice, you can switch to your local currency by getting in touch with your Account Executive. Any changes made to your workspace’s billing currency will be reflected at the time of your next billing cycle.

Sales tax and VAT #

Depending on your location, you might be charged sales tax or Value-Added Tax (VAT) when you purchase any of our paid plans (e.g. Standard, Plus, and Slack Enterprise Grid).
The Company Address stored in Slack is used to determine the correct tax rate. Workspace Owners can update their billing details from the Billing page in Slack.
Note: Prices shown on our website do not include sales tax or VAT.

US sales tax #

For workspaces in the U.S., sales tax is based on your state and local tax rates, and will be included as a line item on your billing statement or invoice.
Currently, sales tax is applicable in the following states:

  • New York
  • Texas
  • District of Columbia

Your Company Address ZIP code is used to determine the correct tax rate. To change your billing information, Workspace Owners can update their billing details from the Billing page in Slack.

Tax exempt #

If your company is tax exempt, please send your current and signed sales tax exempt certificate to tax@slack.com. Be sure to include your workspace’s Slack URL (e.g. your-url.slack.com), and Slack’s full name and address on the tax exempt certificate.

Who can use this feature? #

  • By default, all members except Guests can upgrade the workspace by credit card. Workspace Owners who upgrade the workspace can pay by credit card or invoice.
  • All workspaces can be upgraded to a paid plan.

By default, all members except Guests can upgrade their workspace to the Standard or Plus plan by credit card. Some workspaces can generate a self-serve invoice to pay via check or wire transfer.
It’s not possible to upgrade an individual member’s account because the whole workspace needs to be on the same plan.

Pay with a credit card #

Upgrade your workspace with a credit card to gain access to more features and functionality from Slack’s paid plans. 💳

  • Visit slack.com/plans to find a plan.
  • Choose a plan, then click Upgrade Now.
  • Choose a payment schedule, then click Next.
  • Add your company information, then click Add a Payment Method.
  • Choose Credit Card, then add a new card or pay with an existing card.
  • Click Complete your purchase.
  • Click Purchase to confirm.

Pay by invoice #

If your workspace meets the following criteria, Workspace Owners will see the option to generate a self-serve invoice. Invoices will be emailed to the Workspace Owner and any billing contacts.

  • Your workspace has at least three active members. 
  • You must select the annual payment frequency.
  • On the Plus plan, you must pay for at least 13 members (to a max. of 130).

Note: For self-serve invoices, we can’t complete vendor or payment forms, upload invoices to portals, or make manual revisions at this time. 

  • On the Standard plan, you must pay for at least 25 members (to a max. of 250).
  • Visit slack.com/plans to find a plan. 
  • Choose a plan, then click Upgrade Now.
  • Choose annual payment, then click Next.
  • Add your company information, then click Add a Payment Method.
  • Choose Invoice. Enter the number of users you’d like to pay for. You can’t put less than the number of active members on your workspace.
  • Include additional billing contacts or a purchase order. 
  • Click Review Order, then Purchase to send the invoice by email and complete the upgrade. 

    Payment via check, ACH, or wire transfer is due within 30 days. Our bank account details can be found on the invoice.

Our Fair Billing Policy still applies when paying annually by invoice.

Note: Your location is automatically detected when you create a workspace, and we use this info to determine your billing currency.

Switch plans or billing frequency #

Workspace Owners, or the member that upgraded the workspace, can switch plans at any time. Here’s how:

  • Visit the Billing page: my.slack.com/admin/billing.
  • Click change plan and choose from the list of options.
  • Click View details of this change to review a summary of your changes.
  • Select a payment method. You can pay with an existing card on file or add a new card.
  • Choose to Add this card or Pay with this card.

Downgrade to the Free plan #

There are two options when downgrading to the Free plan:

  • Downgrade immediately
    We will deposit prorated credits for the unused fees into the workspace’s account, and they may be used towards another upgrade within 180 days of your downgrade date. Any credits remaining in your account after 180 days will automatically expire. 
  • Downgrade when the current billing cycle ends. 
    This option will keep your workspace on the paid plan until the end of the billing cycle. At that time, we’ll automatically downgrade you to the Free plan.

What to be aware of when downgrading to the Free plan:

 

Keep in mind, downgrading to the Free plan will not delete any of your workspace’s data, but:

Who can use this feature?

  • Under Existing Cards, choose a card and click Pay with this card

Note: To remove an unwanted card from the list, just click the icon next to that card.
Helpful tip: We require monthly plans to be paid by credit card, but eligible workspaces on annual plans can pay by invoice. Visit Paying for Slack for details.
